On Friday, April 30, friends, colleagues and students gathered to celebrate the career of Communications Professor Jim Fahey. President Dennis Murray spoke about his memories working with Fahey for over 20 years.
Dr. Murray honored Fahey's 25 years of service to the college with a parting gift and wished him well in his second successful retirement. Fahey worked at IBM for nearly years before retiring and starting his second career at Marist.
Fahey did not only teach in his many years at Marist, he also served as the faculty advisor to the Water Polo team. Several members of the team showed up to wish him farewell on Friday afternoon.
Long-time colleague, internship coordinator Gerald McNulty, gave a speech that focused on highlights of Fahey's career and their relationship as Journalism and Public Relations men. Fahey was given the "Jim Fahey Joke Book", a book which compiles many of his jokes from over the years.
Several students, colleagues and friends spoke about their favorite memories of Professor Fahey. Fahey and his wife Colletta sat center stage as they were bombarded with old memories, polite teasing and warm congratulations.
The ocassion was rounded out with the cutting, and eating, of the cake and more time for everyone to say their good-byes.
Professor Fahey will be remember for his energy, early morning classes and hard work at two successful careers for a combined total of more than 50 years. When asked what he would do next he said, "Nothing, until I get bored."
